Contractors, landscapers, architects, electricians, plumbers and other professionals and tradesmen involved in the home construction industry on the East End require licensing. Different types of Licenses are issued by New York State, Suffolk County and by the Townships of East Hampton and Southampton. |

Why Use a Licensed Professional |
Working with a licensed and insured contractor increases your chances of being satisfied with the work performed.
Licensed professionals require training and experience in their field. The licensing process helps to insure that a contractor is knowledgable in their field, is experienced and is properly insured, giving you peace of mind.
Working with licensed professionals helps to protect homeowners against incompetent work or deceptive practices. Licensed contractors must carry insurance to protect you, the homeowner, in the event of damage to your property or injury to workers who are performing work on your property.
If disputes arise consumers can often refer to the licensing body for assistance and in some cases be eligable for restitution. |
Who Issues Licenses |
New York State licenses the professions of Architecture, Interior Design, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture and Engineering.
Suffolk County requires all other contractors in the home improvement industry to be licensed or registered with the Suffolk County Office of Consumer Affairs if they are conducting business in Suffolk County.
East Hampton Town issues home improvement licenses. East Hampton recognizes the Suffolk County licenses for Plumbers and Electricians.
Southampton Town licenses contractors and registers plumbers and electricians. |
